Netflix Announces live-action ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ Series

Adding to their already expansive catalog of anime series, Netflix has announced a live-action Yu Yu Hakusho series

Netflix has quickly become one of the top streaming services when it comes to anime with their vast catalog of old, new, and original anime series, putting it right up there with the likes of Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Hulu. In addition to their original animated anime series lineup, Netflix has been aiming to break the mold and extend their original anime series library with a live-action adaptation of hit anime classics like Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.

Looking to further build upon their live-action anime adaptation lineup, Netflix has announced a live-action adaptation of the hit manga/anime series Yu Yu Hakusho. While no details have currently been released at this time, Yu Yu Hakusho is the third upcoming live-action anime series adaptions as the aforementioned Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.

This isn’t Netflix’s first rodeo when it comes to live-action adaptations. Netflix has also adapted the hit manga/anime series Death Note into a live-action film which was met with abysmal reviews from both critics and fans alike. Their follow up was a live-action adaption of another hit manga/anime series, Bleach. Although met with mixed reviews, the film faired well with some viewers, although a sequel has yet to happen.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child’s life. The manga first released in 1990 through 1994 with its anime adaptation arriving in 1992 through 1994.
