REVIEW: BATMAN/SUPERMAN #10 IS EFFECTIVE

BATMAN/SUPERMAN: REVENGE OF THE ULTRA-HUMANITE

NON-SPOILER REVIEW ?

What’s going on Nerdy fam! If you guys aren’t yet caught up let’s handle the events of issue 9 really quickly. The Atomic Skull, a former villain turned Metropolis officer, is in Gotham seemingly running from the GCPD. Atomic Skull, it appears, has gotten back into villainy but things aren’t what they seem. Batman confronts Skull and as Skull tries to explain what exactly is happening he unwillingly explodes and we see who is truly behind this scheme… The Ultra-Humanite. With the recap out of the way let’s get into issue 10

Batman/Superman

Batman/Superman issue 10: Devastation in Gotham City! Following the events of a massive explosion in midtown, Batman and Superman pick up the pieces to learn who rigged the Atomic Skull like a bomb…and will they do it again? All will be revealed as the horrific plan of the Ultra-Humanite rains terror down on the lives of the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel!

This issue gives us a bit of backstory into Superman’s dealings with Ultra-Humanite via a gruesome-looking flashback followed by a current-day investigation into what exactly could have made Atomic Skull explode and take out a portion of Gotham city. This issue is a slow burn which is a bit of a bummer since issue #9 (Atomic: Pt 1) was a bit faster paced and action-packed. This issue was just ok which isn’t a bad thing but I expected a more in-depth action issue for a “part 2”. This issue ends with a huge cliff hanger that leaves you wanting to know what happens next. I will be checking out the next issue so if you’ve been keeping up you’ll probably do like me. ?

Batman/Superman

SPOILER TIME!

Ok, so this issue kicked off with a great flashback that was highlighted by an AMAZINGLY gruesome panel of a half-blown up Ultra-Humanite! That artwork alone was worth the price of admission! This issue also focused on the detective work of the Dark Knight which, to me, is a huge plus. As I stated above this issue was good but didn’t move at the pace I expected. Based on the autopsy performed by Batman our heroes tracked the hardware used to control Atomic Skull to a factory on the outskirts of Gotham City. Inside the factory, Batman and Superman come face to face with a mind-controlled “zombie” built to explode in the same manner as Atomic Skull. Superman disposes of the bomb by flying it up into the sky unfortunately for Batman he was then taken prisoner. This issue ends with Batman face to face with Ultra Humanite, Batman escapes but it’s too late, he is already wired to explode!! How will our heroes escape from the masterful plan of the Ultra Humanite is anyone’s guess but that definitely excites me for the next issue!

This series continues to build stories featuring the “World’s Finest” team of Batman and Superman in new and exciting ways. Joshua Williamson is great at building worlds and developing characters and the fact that he’s been able to add to the rich history of these mainstay characters is something to behold. I can’t wait to see how this Batman/Superman arc will end and where this series will go.
