Captain Marvel 2 Finds It’s Director in Nia DaCosta


Marvel Studios taps Candyman reboot director Nia DaCosta for Captain Marvel 2

In what will become massive news, Deadline has learned that Candyman reboot director Nia DaCosta has been hired by Marvel Studios to direct the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel starring Oscar-winner Brie Larson. Marvel Studios has been quietly searching for a new director for the upcoming sequel since they decided to move on from director duo Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck who directed the first Captain Marvel film (2018).

Earlier this year reports surfaced that Marvel Studios was in search for a new director for the film and was aiming to hire a female director to bring the film to life. Nia DaCosta will be directing the script written by WandaVision scribe Megan McDonnell.

The first Captain Marvel film which was released back in 2018, earned a massive $1.13 billion at the worldwide box office. Setting new records for comic book films, especially ones with a female lead. After the success of Captain Marvel, Brie Larson also went on to make an appearance in the biggest comic book film of all-time Avengers: Endgame. Last year during San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios announced that Captain Marvel 2 was happening.

Captain Marvel 2 is slated to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
