Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson may have just teased Namor for Doctor Strange 2. Scott Derrickson took to Twitter this morning and tweeted a photo of Namor The Submariner and then deleted the tweet. When directors and actors take to Twitter and Instagram to tease something to the audience, they tend to post whatever it is they are teasing and quickly delete it. If you caught it you caught it. If you didn’t, you can only hope for someone to have screenshot the tweet and/or Instagram post and share it to the public. Luckily for us, someone did just that. Thanks to SuperheroPOLL! Plus on Twitter, we have the deleted tweet, you can check it out below:

Now this tweet could be absolutely nothing and we are just jumping to conclusions and readying ourselves for speculation, which is the reaction that garnishes this type of tease. But what could Marvel do with Namor in a Doctor Strange sequel, when Scott Derrickson has been very vocal about wanting to use Doctor Strange villain Nightmare, and exploring the Nightmare Dimension?

Fans of the comics can immediately tie this into a Defenders team-up. Given comic book history, Namor and Doctor Strange have always been two core members of The Defenders team. Now the only complication with this, (unless plans have changed), is that The Defenders were just a one-off series on Netflix, consisting of Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage; and Marvel and Netflix have possibly worked something out behind closed doors, despite the clause in their now severed contract. Also, Hulu has shown interest in reviving the now cancelled Marvel Netflix shows.

On the other hand, this could just be Marvel’s way of being able to introduce and use Namor in another medium. Universal still holds the solo movie rights to Namor but Marvel is allowed to use the character in other ways, just like they do with Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk.

Could we see Namor appear in Doctor Strange 2 as a cameo or as a potential villain who becomes a hero and teams up with Doctor Strange to help him deal with Nightmare and Mordo? Or could this all lead to a potential new Defenders team for the MCU?

Fans have been wanting Namor to appear in Ryan Coogler‘s Black Panther sequel, but time will only tell what Marvel really has planned.
