GAME OF THRONES WRITERS DAVID BENIOFF & D.B. WEISS EXIT NEW STAR WARS TRILOGY

Game of Thrones David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have no exited from their roles of writing and producing the next Star Wars trilogy. A trilogy that was set to begin with its first film in 2022.

GAME OF THRONES

D&D longtime writers of the hit HBO drama series Game of Thrones had inked a deal with LucasFilm back in early 2018. Following that deal, the writer duo inked an overall deal with streaming giant Netflix. In a deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is worth $200 million.

The duo shared their grievances regarding their exit:

“We love Star Wars,” Benioff and Weiss said. “When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Warswith him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything. There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Warsand our Netflix projects, so we are regretfully stepping away.”

Kathleen Kennedy, president of LucasFilm seemed rather optimistic, despite D&D’s exit:

“David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers,” Kennedy said. “We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”
